Ms. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the opposition in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD), and the 1991 Noble Peace Prize recipient gave a special lecture at UTokyo Hongo Campus, and approximately 400 audience filled the hall. In her lecture she spoke that democracy itself does not mean rights, but by everyone taking and fulfilling their responsibility it will lead to the realization of democracy, which ensures the individual’s rights. She called on the youths of Japan, who do not always actively participate in voting at elections that are free and fair, not to be indifferent to elections and to make use of these elections which are the first steps to achieving democracy. Furthermore, she advised the youths that to become a good leader, they must first be a good follower, having responsibility for their actions and the importance of expanding their knowledge.
