A marvellous feat of derring-do
When I first tuned in to The Red Panda Adventures, I very nearly got up and switched the dial - a decision that would have cost me, dearly. Being a latecomer to the world of podcasts, I had become too accustomed to the slick professionalism of the seemingly ubiquitous ad-supported, Patreon-puffed and big-budget offerings of the modern day. Such plush audible furnishing is entirely unreasonable to expect of a non-commercial amateur passion project, recorded - possibly on an actual shoestring - way back in 2005, and itself adapted from amateur theatre productions. These shows are a labour of love, of a kind virtually unknown in the world today; if you let them, the rough-hewn marks of that labour will become as much a part of the campy charm as its old time radio styling - and only throw its most remarkable accomplishments into even sharper relief. If you’re a fan of 30s radio drama, Adam West’s 1960s Batman serials, or superheroics of any era, The Red Panda Adventures is everything you could possibly want. Note: for newcomers, I recommend initially skipping the pilot ‘original universe’ episodes provided here, though these make for equally entertaining bonus content

More reviews of Decoder Ring Theatre
The Decoder Ring Theatre is a charming little podcast. It is very reminiscent of a radio show you would have heard in the 40s of 50s. The stories are very enjoyable.

I love all the others but the Red Panda is what brought me to DRT and is what I think of when I...Read full review »

If you're a fan of pulp detectives, comic book heroes and old time radio, this ought to be your first stop on your iPod's dial. (Yeah, that was unbelievably corny. Good thing I don't write for them, huh?)Read full review »
