“As someone living in Newfoundland, I found this podcast to be a disgusting misrepresentation of what is really going on. I partake in the recreational seal hunt and what was said on this podcast about the seal hunt are pure lies.
For starters you cannot hunt pups. That is completely false, despite how many times the host and his guest talk about it. Hunting for whitecoats (pups) has been illegal for many years. Secondly the hunt on the east coast is not just for pelts as was said. Go to any home in Newfoundland in springtime and you will find flipper pie on the table. As well, most sealers are fisherman as well and this is an essential part of their yearly income. Although this podcast called it “a compete myth that it helps the economy”. Then they got on the topic of fish stocks. “There is clear evidence that seals are not responsible for a lowering of cod and capelin stocks” this is completely false and inaccurate. The harp seal population is higher than it has been in many years and they are predating now n the cod and on capelin. The high seal population is one of the definitive reasons for the low cod and capelin stocks.”
