Reframing Delis For A Modern Audience
Let me preface this by saying I love the Jewish people. My parents are Jewish. My brothers and sisters are Jewish. The people who attend my synagogue are Jewish. Sure, I have met some that I would describe in less than charitable terms, but overall they seem like good people. But the Deli I can not stand. A mish-mash of brown decor, 5000 year old food, and farm animals wandering in and out aimlessly. As a self-described foodie, I have often considered delis to be a shanda on the grand arts of eating and digesting. In fact, I have never stepped foot in a deli. I. Hate. Delis. Or at least I did. By accident, I listened to an episode of Deli Boys while trying to find a podcast of LA alt-comedians reviewing fast food restaurants. What was initially shock at my error quickly turned into elation as my previous deeply held beliefs were shattered by Eban and David’s thoughtful analysis of Deli culture and history. These two learned social commentators bring listeners through an entertaining an educational journey, revealing the mundane to be interesting, and the interesting to be divine. Even their choice of guest is carefully considered, each one able to illuminate on The importance of delis to the fabric of LA and America as a whole, or when they first saw a circumcised penis. This is not just a podcast for deli fans, it’s for deli haters and the deli agnostic. For we are all deli fans, we just needed this podcast to learn it.

I can’t believe how much mikes fat slob Jewish character sounds like a real living breathing price of garbage. Very believable.
