Episode 14: social media architecture, social norms and digital activism (Nathalie Van Raemdonck)
Listen now
Description
This time, our guest is Nathalie Van Raemdonck, a PhD researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Media and Communication science. Her doctoral research focuses on the spread of misinformation and hostilities on social media, which she investigates through the lens of social norm contestations and affordances. In her spare time she runs a social media account on Instagram called @anti_conspiracy_memewars where she creatively uses memes to debunk misinformation and conspiracies. In this episode, Maia, Maria and Nathalie bounce around different topics, drop humonnnngous amounts of references to memes, and generally have a good time. We hope you have a good time listening, too. How to fix the world? Be kind, says Nathalie. If that is too soppy for you, then: "Give agency back to people instead of corporations, don't let greed win." Our main survival strategy is collaboration, after all.
