Unit 2 - Introduction
Listen now
Description
Units 2 and 3 reflect an important assumption underlying this MOOC-Ed: The changes needed in K-12 education go beyond making current practices more effective to requiring significant changes in the culture of teaching and learning - changes in the expectations, roles and interactions of teachers and students. In these two units we will consider potential changes in what students are expected to learn, know and do; how, when and where teaching and learning take place; and how success is measured for both students and teachers. We expect a wide divergence of opinions and look forward to the exchanges around this topic. Our essential questions for Unit 2 are: What changes in the culture of teaching and learning would you recommend for your school or district? What do you see as the major challenges to making these changes? In this unit, you are asked to begin planning a draft statement of the goals you recommend to your school or district for updating teaching and learning and the major challenges in meeting those goals.
