“A bit mixed on this one. I think the host does an awesome job at getting great personalities from the field, and I’ve found that very interesting and sometimes valuable.
I cringe at his perspective often. Glorifying the field is a great thing, but it comes across as disingenuous if you have small sample sizes to hang your hat on. Shift work involves a lot of sacrifice - mostly stemming from time away from family and friends, plus the mental toll it takes. Toiling away for years - even decades - is much different than a few internships and entry level jobs and I think it’s dangerous to compare the two, and it’s hard to talk about this unless you’ve experienced these aspects. I think anyone can understand blue collar work, and even dip their hands into it, but without experiencing the consequences, it’s really difficult to convincingly say you do. Working 18 hour days or traveling six days a week happens, but there is a difference if you are doing it because you have to pay your rent versus if you want to do it. I’m not sure if understanding that divide is appreciated through this podcast.
That said, I love his enthusiasm for all things dirt. That definitely shouldn’t get lost. The content that they create is clearly impressive.”
