For the past decade, women reclaiming their sexuality has been a growing phenomenon, but is this actually the case? The vocabulary, gestures, and attire have progressed from sexy to rude and boorish. A culture's hypersexualization is increasingly permeating the mainstream and suburbs. This, in turn, influences how women of color are approached, treated, and seen. Since the first macho guy took up a microphone, women have been oversexualized in rap. A gold necklace, stacks of money, and women as background props comprise the masculine rap startup kit. In the rap world, a "flex" is frequently described by unrestricted access to wealth and women. Success in the genre is a relatively new phenomenon.
