Of course race played a role
The reviewers who don’t think race played a role at all are baffling to me. No one is saying the white family didn’t suffer. But there are stark differences, and off the top of my head: the father in the black family was facing charges and the mother in the white family was not, and the black family was separated from their children for far longer than the white family. Not to mention the white family got all the media coverage.

I agree with the first reviewer - I couldn’t get through the first episode. In addition to being extremely cringeworthy (eg the audio at the beginning of the first episode) it undermines the vital work of child protection personnel. Incredibly well done. Listened to the first 2 episodes and am hooked. God knows I would never want the burden of being a CPS worker (seriously...God bless you guys) but this is a chilling example of what can happen when the state oversteps.
