“I listen to this podcast because although circumstances were different, the same thing happened to my son and daughter-in-law in regards to my grandson. They also went to a Children’s Hospital in Kansas City, after my grandson, 1 month old at the time, fell off the changing table. Being first time parents, they also took their baby at 2:30 in the morning in an abundance of caution and their concern for his health and well-being. As with this story, CAT scans were done, physicians came in and out of the room and by the end of the day, allegations of child abuse arose. It is heartbreaking to know that a government entity meant to protect children often times causes heartbreak, sadness, and so much harm to the children they are supposed to protect. Because my son and daughter-in-law were not married at the time, CPS encouraged them to separate instead of staying together as a family unit. They placed my grandson in foster care for months until they can go to court and have him released to someone in the family. My heart goes out to all those families going through this. It is not easy, it leaves so many wounds, and fragments families, the all in the name of protecting a child that didn’t need protection by CPS. They did everything that CPS requested them to do. They took parenting classes, they read books, they followed every guideline and yet it took over a year to reunite their family. The most heartbreaking part of it is that they missed milestones, first steps first a lot of things because of these overzealous physicians at Children’s hospital. It doesn’t help that these physicians and social workers are paid for these referrals, so until that part stops, families will continue to go through this heartache.”
