Not What It Used To Be
After listening to the shockingly declining Who Cast I thought I would head back to Podshock for my weekly audio fan fix of Doctor Who. For me, in very recent years, Podshock Time Lorded it over all other Doctor Who podcasts. It's simple format of discussing the news, then maybe a review followed by a feature worked so well, mainly due to the honest enthusiasm and extreme likeability of it's three hosts. It wasn't the most professionaly produced podcast but that was also a part of it's appeal. It just sounded like three fans, the sort you could have a drink with down the pub, talking about their greatest passion. What this podcast had, which all others didn't, was three presenters who had a lot of chemistry between them. It didn't matter if they were talking about The Space Museum episode three, you could always find enjoyment in listening to what they had to say. So it's with a small amount of sadness that I must report that this podcast ain't what it used to be. The three hosts are very rarely together on an episode and it's left to Louis to present the show, and sadly on his own, it just doesn't work. Without that important ingrediant that made past episodes so good missing, there's not much of a show left. Another gripe is the increasing amount of plugs and adverts for audible, ipod apps, web hosting companies and the like. The worst being a cringe inducing pledge drive by Louis for listeners to send him money for flights to LA so he can attend a Doctor Who convention. I'm hoping that Podshock will one day return to it's former glories. Personally I think the way forward would be to not produce so many, and only record them when all three, Ken, Louis and James are available. So I won't be downloading this for a while but will come back it at some point. Until then I'm going to take this oppurtunity to check some of the newer Doctor Who podcasts out.

Starting a podcast with a bad advert is horrid, no enthusiasm and no quirks. I listened to this as radio free skaro hadn't been uploaded and boy the difference is huge. If anyone reading this hasn't had to put up with podshock listen to radio free skaro, it is a million times better than this...Read full review »
