“Podcast is often picking up on recent developments but sometimes also quite niche topics (such as the evolution of fast food culture in China) but then puts it into a broad perspective of societal and political change. I’m often surprised about how interesting I find an episode when I initially thought from the title it wouldn’t be my cup of tea.
Drum tower deepens my understanding of Chinese society, politics and culture in a balanced way that demonises no one while remaining critical and in-depth. Compared to other foreign affairs podcasts, I there’s less “black and white / good vs bad” thinking, perhaps due to the British viewpoint which is less antagonistic than many Americans.
Plus, the host start charming! They actually live in China, speak Chinese languages, raise families there and bring a deep background knowledge.
Paying for an Economist podcast subscription paid off way more than I thought. Keep up the great work!”
