It's the plea of one's own authenticity, a voice obscured by the ceaseless pursuit of pleasing everyone we call into our inner circle, and even those who exists on the peripheral of our being. The siren call of people pleasing is one that many humans are familiar with, myself included. People pleasing becomes a toxic trait that can subtly infiltrate our lives, slowly eroding our sense of self, leaving us feeling unheard and even unsatisfied with the relationships we've called into our life. In the world of personal development, understanding how we become people pleasers, the detrimental effects of this behavior, and the path to stop people pleasing remains a crucial path we must forge in order to improve our overall health on most levels. For those of us who grew up in turbulent households, where chaos reigned and emotional abuse cast its long shadow, the seeds of people pleasing were sown quite early in life. This inclination closely aligns with the "fawn response," a survival strategy driven by the need to create harmony while also appeasing others. It's a well-intentioned, intelligent nervous system response that helps us navigate the storms during our formative years. However, as we mature, these people pleasing patterns cease to serve our higher selves and can hinder our experience very quickly. People pleasers are often marked by their heightened sensitivity, a blessing and a curse. Those of us who have the habit of people pleasing possess an uncanny ability to pick up on the tiniest shifts in energy, detecting distress or dissatisfaction in others like a finely-tuned radar. When chronic people pleasers sense discord or disapproval, it sends shockwaves through their nervous system, triggering discomfort. As a result, most people pleasers become chameleons, constantly changing their colors to match the expectations or desires of those around them. This constant shape-shifting, this insatiable urge to change as a means of making everyone else happy, eventually takes its toll, leading to a profound energy drain and negative side effects that reverberate throughout the lives of people pleasers. People pleasing can lead to a litany of adverse health effects, both mental and physical. The constant self-negation, the suppression of one's true desires and needs, creates a disconnect from one's authentic self. This dissonance can manifest as anxiety, depression, and a pervasive sense of dissatisfaction with life. To liberate oneself from the shackles of people pleasing, one must embark on a profound journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. It begins with the courage to reconnect with your true self, to call back the scattered fragments of your energy from the myriad of people you've tried to please. Rediscovering your authentic self requires regular somatic check-ins throughout the day. By honoring your preferences, you not only heal yourself but also contribute positively to the world around you. This is where the true transformation begins for chronic people pleasers. By developing the capacity to voice your needs and desires with the utmost clarity, you empower yourself to navigate life authentically. It's a daunting task, especially for those who have long been trapped in the labyrinth of people pleasing, but it is a journey worth embarking upon to live fully. The journey is not without its challenges, but it is through these challenges that we grow and evolve. By voicing your truth, you may encounter resistance or disagreements with the people around you, but remember, it's about being okay with being misunderstood and embracing the conflicts that arise. Breaking free from the clutches of people pleasing allows you to redi
