Solar energy may be a renewable resource, but there are different ways of capturing solar radiation and converting it into usable energy. According to the International Energy Agency, power generation from solar photovoltaics (PV) in 2020 is estimated to have increased by a record 156 TWh, marking 23 per cent growth from 2019. Solar PV accounted for 3.1 per cent of global electricity generation, and it remains the third-largest renewable electricity technology behind hydropower and onshore wind after overtaking bioenergy in 2019. WeDoSolar’s smart balcony solar solution enables the users to lower their dependence on grid energy while also reducing the CO2 footprint by up to 600kg, which is the equivalent of 1,000 square metres of forest, and saving up to 25 per cent of annual electricity costs. Karolina Attspodina, the start-up's CEO and co-founder, speaks with Andrew Wrobel about the solution, helping to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on our everyday lives, enabling a large group of consumers to contribute to reducing their carbon footprint.
