Making Heat Stress Prevention Personal

Description
When a worker on a hot summer job site starts experiencing dizziness and nausea, heat stress may have already set in. That's where the SafeTemp Personal Heat Stress Alarm comes into play. The ingenious device from CoolShirt sounds a 69 dB alarm when a worker's skin temperature reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit (which can signal a core body temperature of 103 degrees). The alarm lets a worker know that it's time to cool off, take a break and hydrate. The beauty of the SafeTemp alarm is that it's unobtrusive. It isn't some large, bulky piece of equipment. Nope, the alarm is a 1-1/2" diameter disk that weighs just 6 grams. It fastens to the brim of a hat or to a hard hat suspension. It can also be attached directly to the skin (behind the ear) with an adhesive patch. The alarm is powered by a one-year battery and features LEDs that inform workers when the unit is working properly and alert users when battery life is low. Heat-induced illness is a serious concern for summer workers, and roughly 700 people die from heat stroke in the U.S. each year. The SafeTemp alarm is a huge step toward preventing heat stress and ensure that it doesn't progress into extremely dangerous heat stroke.
