2 Things
Great topic, great speaking. I only have two critiques that I hope the Church will eventually veer away from in future generations, because I think they are harmful understandings. 1) Adam was made in God's image in the same way that Nebuchadnezzar's golden statue was made in Nebuchadnezzar's image. Adam was made "as" (a more proper translation from the Hebrew) YHVH's image, in that Adam was the statue that King YHVH erected in order to demonstrate His authority/dominion. It has nothing to do with the ontology of a human being. For more on this, see G.K. Beale's book, "The Temple and The Church's Mission". 2) Just because something is described as "spiritual" does not mean it is not physical. This is a Platonic idea, not Biblical. Jesus is described in 1 Corinthians 15.45 as being A SPIRIT, and yet He was most definitely physical (John 20.27). For more on this, see N.T. Wright's "Surprised By Hope" Both of these assumptions are harmful for the Church, in that one distracts us from the reason why YHVH made humans in the first place, and the other makes the physical something to be discarded, and the non-physical something to be sought after.
