S1 Ep 8: Michaela Stark - Artist & Designer
Listen now
Description
Michaela’s rebellious lingerie and feminist approach to design have made her into a contemporary fashion provocateur. Challenging traditional beauty standards through her work, in this episode she talks about subverting the age-old art of corsetry, the influence of Katy Perry's ‘Teenage Dream’ on her personal style, and why she'll always be Gaga’s Little Monster. Michaela’s work arose from her own desire to empower her body, working through feelings of body dysmorphia. As part of her intimate study of the body, she will often model and photograph her own pieces, creating self portraits. Previously a resident at Alexander McQueen’s Sarabande Foundation, Michaela creates custom-made lingerie pieces that are designed to sculpt the body and enhance the society-perceived ‘imperfections’, offering a new and more forgiving perspective on the female form.
