Doomberg on the Destruction of Living Standards

Description
And now for some more Fatal Conceits… Welcome to Ep #81 of the Fatal Conceits podcast, dear listener… the show about money, markets, mobs and manias, not always in that order. In this week’s conversation, we caught up with the most worried chicken in all of finance, the anonymous author of the fantastic Doomberg newsletter. Listeners can also join his legions of followers on Twitter, here. Over the course of our discussion, we spoke about the dismal state of legacy media outlets and why they’ve fallen from their once-proud stature to become partisan, clickbait mongering hacks… and how alternative platforms, like Substack, are bringing meritocracy back to the market… We also get into Doomberg’s specialities, those being energy, finance and the economy at large. Doomberg kindly shared his thoughts on the science (or lack thereof) behind the “climate change religion” and why he believes that foregoing “access to primary energy is literally a proactive decision to degrade your standard of living.” We also discuss a major push by the BRICS coalition to “de-dollarize,” the likelihood of further deglobalization and even the potential for kinetic conflict between China and Taiwan… How does all of this impact the economy… financial markets… and your investment decisions? Listen in for the full Fatal Conceits Podcast… and don’t forget to share with friend and foe alike! Cheers, Joel BowmanHost, Fatal Conceits Podcast P.S. As always, a full transcript of the show, lightly edited for clarity and including links to Doomberg’s excellent work and all sources mentioned in the discussion, can be found below… Fatal Conceits Ep #81 - Doomberg on Energy, Media and the Financial Press Joel Bowman:All right, folks. Welcome back to yet another episode of the Fatal Conceits Podcast. As you know, this is a show about money markets, mobs, and manias. If you haven't already done so, please head over to bonnerprivateresearch.substack.com. You check out our Substack newsletter there. It's a free daily missive, and you'll be able to find hundreds of articles on everything from high finance to lowly politics and plenty more besides including many more conversations like this one under the Fatal Conceits Podcast tab at the top of the page. I'm delighted today to welcome, I think, for the first time, a cartoon avatar onto the show after 80 or so episodes, of course, you'll recognize the worried chicken as the author of the wildly popular Doomberg newsletter. You can catch him over at doomberg.substack.com where he writes about energy finance and the economy at large, or join his legions over on Twitter, @doombergT. Doomberg, welcome to the show. Good to see you. Doomberg:Joel. Happy New Year. Great to be here. Congratulations on the success of your Substack and always a pleasure to talk to another content creator who's managed to carve out some success in this endeavor. Joel Bowman:Thanks very much. Likewise. Likewise. Actually, we were just speaking before we hit record, I had another fellow Substacker, Edwin Dorsey, who writes the excellent Bear Cave newsletter on just last week, and we were speaking about exactly that subject, actually about the kind of eroding trust in mainstream media, these kind of banner outlets that I won't perhaps name, but everybody knows them, and then the rise and rise of alternative media platforms just like Substack on the other side. What's, in your opinion, being the driving catalyst behind that kind of trend over the last couple of years in particular, I guess? Doomberg:It's a great question, and one that we've given a lot of thought to, obviously, and part of the reason why we decided to start Doomberg almost two years ago, now, there's sort of two factors at play, in our view. One is there is of course this polarization within the country and the mainstream media.
