One of the worst podcasts i’ve listened to honestly
Sadly this podcast was nothing but disappointment after disappointment. Maybe I made the mistake of starting with their Mariah Carey episode, because i assumed they would have taken time to actually appreciate her discography as a whole but instead they down played her creativity and quality in music as her years progressed. The more mariah became herself and emersed her music in black culture, which is entirely authentic to her; that’s when the hosts of this podcast claimed she lost her quality. I knew they didn’t truly care for her artistry when they immediately dismissed the glitter soundtrack and considered her charmbracelet album as not that good, and then grazed over emancipation as “not having as much quality” as her earlier albums. they completely skipped years of work to rush their way to the end. Maybe don’t give a listen to this one unless you wanna hear 2 caucasian people discredit a black artist and their music that has not only been a strong soundtrack for the culture, but an impact on music as a whole. They were limiting themselves to the work she did from 1990-1995. despite being AMAZING albums, the label was obviously white washing her image and sound. Considering they read her memoir, i was shocked to hear so much ignorance for her work. The 2018 “Caution” album, which is the biggest creatively acclaimed album of her career (and the best critically received R&B album of that year) was skipped over. They truly disappointed me. i will not be listening again.
