Description
Steve Smith is a Pitching Coordinator in the Detroit Tigers Organization.  A little background on Coach Smith, starting with his collegiately playing career.  He played at Mississippi College for one year before transferring to Baylor University where he spent the next three years of his career.  He was then drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 5th round of the 1983 Major League Baseball Draft.  He spent a few years in professional baseball, making it as high as Triple A in the Giants Organization.  He then retired from playing and started his Collegiate Coaching career.  From 1988-1989 he was an Assistant Coach at Texas A&M and then from 1990-1994 he coached at Mississippi State University.  Next, he was given a Head Coaching position at Baylor University, where he spent 1995-2015.  While at Baylor, in 2012 he was named the All-Time Winningest Coach and at the end of his career there accumulated an impressive 744 wins.  Then, he coached collegiately for a number of years before entering into the Professional Baseball Coaching world in 2021 as a Pitching Coordinator in the Detroit Tigers Organization.   In this podcast, we start off with Coach Smith discussing his mentors and the biggest influences on his Coaching Career, as well as talking about the three principles to coach by.  We than talk about Coach Smith getting fired from Baylor Unexpectedly and his healing years at Auburn.
