Description
Toni Langhans is the Sports Dietician at Oregon State University, a very well-known Division I school in the Pac-12 Conference.  She graduated from Indiana State University in 2014 with a degree in dietetics, there she also competed on the Track & Field team.  Not long after graduating she completed a performance nutrition internship at Baylor University and then received a job at Washington State University as sports dietician.  Next, she spent time in Okinawa, Japan on a Military Base helping United States and their families with their nutritional needs.  Then in 2019, she was hired at Oregon State University as the Director of Sports Nutrition.   We start off this podcast discussing the videos that Toni has on the Figure It Out Website and what they entail.  Then, we dive into a deep discussion about different nutrition-related topics, talking about eating before workouts, proper preparation for those early morning lifts, and pre-workout supplements and whether student-athletes should use them.  We also cover caffeine’s effect on athletes, protein after workouts and as a meal replacement, and much more! Toni and I also discuss “food fear” in today’s society and her thoughts on the topic, as well as what she recommends in terms of sleep for athletes and how lack of sleep has a domino effect on an athlete’s day.  We finish off this podcast talking about proper hydration for a student-athlete and what dehydration does to the body.
