Anything could happen in the next… 10mins!
Unless you’re clued in on the worlds of Gerry Anderson (former Thunderbirds creator amongst many other cult series), you might not pick up on the F.A.B. connection. But this is an audio drama with Anderson in its blood - namely from series writer, and son of Gerry, Jamie Anderson. It’s got all the production quality of a Big Finish audio drama, a catchy theme tune, incredible sound effects and scoring, and a wonderful cast of actors (some with their own connections to the ‘Anderverse’). Jamie, and producer Nicolas Briggs, are keen to point out the themes and inspiration from Gerry’s canon of work (the utopian society, the action packed drama), but this goes way beyond Space 1999 or U.F.O.. To a thirty-something, it reminds me a great deal of those Saturday night BBC dramas; Doctor Who, B.U.G.S., and Spooks, as well as Mission: Impossible, or even the Deus Ex games. With the first three episodes available at launch - coming in ~10min each - it’s a powerful start to what seems to be a cryptic and mysterious, sci-fi, action adventure. If this goes on to release episodically week-after-week it might be worth building up a few to listen to in bigger chunks - right now, one episode doesn’t feel enough to satisfy. But I’m looking forward to hearing where we go next, because as one W.A.S.P. Commander used to say; “Anything could happen in the next…” 10mins!?
