There have been plenty of headlines over the years heralding the demise of the US dollar as the world's reserve currency of choice, with an increasing number of countries looking at alternatives. Not to mention, of course, the rise of crypto and decentralized coins that don't rely on governments at all. In 2001, USD assets represented nearly 73% of global bank reserves. Now that figure has fallen to around 58% according to RBC Wealth Management.
