“I’m disappointed with the lazy, one-sided “care institutions are bad” take. You tried to present an alternative, but you failed to set up a fair presentation of the actual problem in the US. I worked as a care giver 20 years ago in Seattle and the state run institutions, despite their problems, were much more responsible and humane than the private entities offering “choice” while severely understaffed and lacking any kind of training, OT, or PT. I worked in both and I would never buy the snake oil from these private companies that easily convinced you to demonize “institutions”. Do a little more homework next time.”
