Rounders
“You can’t lose what you don’t put in the middle…but you can’t win much either.” - Mike McD Live a little, fellas. Yeesh. This is a discussion……of a game…scaffolded upon another game. The primary function here is entertainment. Can we let the hair down and go beyond 1) Established studs are more reliable…2) Youth is SCARY…and 3) Trade down until you have no more players or high picks, because everything except being ‘liquid’ is overrated (and/or SCARY)? Given that we all only get so many spins around the sun, why be Joey Knish when it’s more rewarding to trust yourself and go for glory? Luck is overrated...and seeing all the angles but never having the stones to play any of them is what should genuinely scare us all. Dynasty accordingly. These dudes are such a wet blanket. They squeeze the fun out the very elements of the game that make it…fun. We all understand that boring production ends up being more valuable than missed potential. You’re not enlightening anyone that 1>0. Just like we all know that we SHOULD go for the chick with the A1 personality…which we acknowledge right as we throw caution to the wind and push our chips towards the hottest Sheila in the room. Hear us roar. The target here should always be entertainment. Alas, my guess is that self-imposed guardrails will eventually render the entire Football Guys brand obsolete. Can’t go past an hour on a pod…can’t cuss…can’t talk about anything that could be construed by the bottom-feeders as ‘off color’…etc. etc. Know. Your. Audience. You’re offering cotton candy to cavemen, and at some point they are all going to get bored and hunt elsewhere for more substance. They’re just words, fellas. Say one with me: Entertainment, entertainment, entertainment. UPDATE: “I read another review that suggested you should entertain, and I laughed; it’s your knowledge that sets you guys apart blah blah blah.” Really? You’re dazzled by the ability to look at stats and make educated guesses based on simple numbers? This stuff isn’t that complicated, guy. Granted, if sports haven’t always been a big part of your life, I can understand needing another dude’s “knowledge” about a game (football) that we start playing at 5 or 6 years old. And I don’t even mean that disparagingly. Any of us are going to be relative novices in MOST areas; no shame in it. But I have to think if you’re listening to these wet blankets, you are coming in with some baseline of understanding about fantasy football…at which point, being entertained should matter more than hearing Joe Analyst’s best guess how a particular ball will bounce. The ability to be an orator that can captivate an audience is easily the rarer skillset (ie, anyone can look at trends and calculate risk probability; again, not that complicated). The other fallacy the above take fell into in its attempt to be ‘enlightened’ is that he didn’t even HAVE to pick a side (which so many seem to gravitate to these days, rather than blazing their own trail). Believe it or not, there are people roaming the land that have both a personality AND a vision. The dictionary is very knowledgeable…but not a great read. A clown might elicit a chuckle…but he’s probably not the guy to ask about investment advice. Those are the polar ends of this spectrum. But then there is a magical circle in the middle of an imaginary Venn that we should all strive to land in (if we want to maximize our reach…and thereby our revenue). The ‘Football Guys’ are no more quantifiably dialed-in than any other stat monkey. NO ONE in this industry has a proven track record of accountability. They call themselves experts, and everyone laps it up. What percentage of prognostications did Boring Dynasty Guy #1 nail last year? How ‘bout Boring Dynasty Guy #2…how’d he fair last year, compared to the average podcast fortune teller? [collective shrug] No one knows. The best gamblers in the world get it right 6/10 times, TOPS. And for the vast majority of the human population, we’re talkin’ coin flips. Of course, we’re all here to talk football…but within that construct, the entertainment quotient is the one area of this product that can be controlled and remain consistent. So I “have to laugh” when someone goes out of their way…and still doesn’t get there.

Thanks guys for what you about rookie wrs and also what you didn’t say. I think I changed my 1.07 pick in a 6 player keeper league. Was leaning towards Addison but I’m on the Johnson train after the 8-17 show. Thanks
