Great story / this IS the correct pronunciation of “Montrose”
This story happened in a community adjacent to mine and I think the journalism is fantastic. For all the folks who don’t live in Western Colorado complaining about the pronunciation of Montrose, longtime locals in this community generally refer to it as the narrator does— “Mont- rose.” There’s actually a running joke that you can tell when someone’s not from the area when they pronounce it “Mon-trose.” I thought the narrator did a great job and took her pronunciation cue from a longtime local. I was surprised and happy to hear that.
