Description
Ours to Protect is a unique and exciting audio project – a collaboration of local and regional broadcasters from across the country who have come together to tackle climate change, champion climate action, and inform and educate audiences all over Ireland about how they can make a difference. Today on ‘Ours To Protect’ John Morley talks to Michael O'Boyle of Cycle Friendly Ireland and Justine Delaney of Genesys about the Galway company's European Cycle Friendly Employer Gold Star award. == Did you know… Genesys Ireland has been certified as a European Cycle Friendly Employer? Many companies across Europe are being recognized as Cycle-Friendly Employers. This certification program ensures workplaces support employees who choose to cycle to work. Cycling to work is good for the environment, your health, and can even save you money on transportation costs. Why is it important that employers become cycle friendly? Cycling is a healthy activity, leading to fitter, happier employees. Studies show reduced sick days and improved overall health in employees who cycle to work. By encouraging cycling, employers can significantly reduce their carbon footprint. This combats climate change and promotes a greener company image. Less reliance on car parking translates to lower costs for employers. Additionally, employees save money on commuting expenses. What can I do to help support cycle friendly employers? At your own work, talk to colleagues and managers about cycling to work. Gauge their openness to the idea. Look into resources like Cycle Friendly Employer programs or cycling advocacy groups in your area. Present information on the benefits for both employees and the company. Many companies display certifications or logos. Give them your patronage and mention their cycling initiatives in positive reviews.
