S2E6: Self-Care for Gay Dads with Cory George
Listen now
Description
Queer parents have a lot on their shoulders; aside from all the accolades that come with being gay, we also have kids to raise! And then there's the ever-present anxiety that our families are constantly being watched by the rest of the world. Gay parents often form their families via foster and adoption, which means our children may have gone through significant trauma in their own lives as well. So how do gay dads prioritize self-care and focus on our own trauma, while also being the best parents we can be? This episode, GWK host David Dodge talks to certified trauma counselor and fellow gay dad, Cory George. Cory discusses his experience as a survivor of sexual abuse who became a counselor and adopted two kids, one of whom is trans. He give advice on how gay parents can navigate their own family's traumatic responses, how to set healthy boundaries, and how to learn to prioritize self-care.
