A Valuable podcast in a sea of podcasts
Informative, but the banter is often juvenile. Ashley brings a great contemporary perspective. Jason phrases too much material as a guessing game, which is exhausting and annoying. The show offers a wide range of topics, from cult films, major franchises, and fun dives into comic and sci-fi properties. Their dives are wide and deep, without getting lost in obscurities. Their angle is refreshing: a basic course on major properties. Perfect for the Daredevil expert who knows nothing about Green Arrow; the Teen Titans fanatic with little familiarity of The Scarlet Witch. Here is an observation: modern takes on fantasy and science fiction tend to be aspirational and inclusive, while traditional storytelling throughout the ages can be stark and severe, offering a brutal take on a brutal way of life. This disconnect results in criticism of some older material for being prejudiced, when it could be argued that such material was simply being sophisticated and reflective of cruel realities.
