“I only 3 starred this, but I persist in listening to every episode and I do get some really great book recommendations from this show. You can write in to the show to get personalized reading recommendations. I did this one time and my question did not make it on the show. I’m pretty sure it’s because I didn’t ask for a book about a transgender man written by a transgender woman, or whatever. Diversity seems to be their forte. And that’s cool! But I just want a well-written book and I do not care one iota if it was written by a 57-year-old straight white man. Also, they recommend A LOT of YA novels to adult readers and they don’t do a good job of saying, “this is a YA novel”. I have become interested in a number of books based on their recommendations just to start it and be disappointed to find a 15-year-old protag in a love triangle. This seems to be a problem with book riot in general; I guess a lot of adult readers must be mentally stuck in the 9th grade. Neither host likes Game of Thrones, so when they try to recommend read-alikes they fail miserably. Also, neither of them like horror books so they miss the mark most of the time there, as well. In spite of my griping, I do like the show. It is fast-paced, so I never feel like they are droning on about whatever stupid YA book they are recommending to 36-year-old Abby in Des Moines, or whatever. Because they talk about so many books per episode, I feel like I know a little bit about a lot of books. It’s a great feeling to be able to tell my bookish friends, “Hey, I’ve heard of that!””
