“I’ll try not to put my whole life story on here haha but basically, I was living in Korea during the panini. I was trying to make a career out there and was being abused at work, plus my apartment was and salary were extra small too.
I’d go straight home after work to de-stress and oftentimes would turn on Get Real episodes on my projector while cooking and eating dinner. I’m not Asian, but am a minority, so somehow these guys made me feel right at home.
I had tried to make friends and would go out nearly every weekend, but there was always something that was missing— I think it was having a real community, like I had back in Hawai’i. Get Real didn’t replace that, but it was as close as I could get in Korea.
Of course my favorite episode are with Harry aka pH-1. I’m also Christian and really enjoy his music, so to be able to see one of your favorite artists on a show when concerts were still on lockdown was really great. Thanks for continuing to come back to the show Harry!
And thank you to all the hosts, other guests, and staff members as well. I’m not an expert, but familiar with things like The Halfie Project and some Gyopo culture and experiences in Korea. Y’all are paving the way for them and for other non-white foreigners in Korea too!
Peniel, Ashley, and Junny really vibe off of each other well, and BM too! When Harry’s there, it’s really like the family is complete. I’m not really into reality tv or kdramas, so thank you for giving me something to watch and learn from, especially during my time in Korea.
I left shortly after for both my physical and mental health, and I’ll never forget how this show was a part of my after-work routine. I hope I can meet y’all one day in the USA. Don’t stop what you’re doing!
