“I have a serious issue with an episode she wanted me to hear entitled, “God’s Plan For Your Fertility.” The title is very misleading. The information your guest presented on women’s hormones was clear and concise, and I have zero issues with it, except for the ridiculous notion to “be more nurturing to the wife and children after ovulation” nonsense. Oh, so basically just be a good husband, and we’ll get more sex is what you’re saying? It’s actually a little insulting.
But where my true concerns arise is around the lighthearted discussion about NFP, as if it is just an acceptable practice, which it is not.
There was nary a mention of “God’s Plan” within the entire discussion, most likely because traditional Catholic teaching on this topic is too difficult for the majority of Catholics today. There was no mention of what the “serious/grave/just reasons” are to use NFP in the first place. Sorry, but “I don’t want another child” is not a reason. THAT is YOUR plan, it might not be God’s Plan. If you fully and faithfully trust and believe in God’s plan for you, why wouldn’t you trust Him in your most important calling as a married couple? The primary purpose of marriage is the procreation and education of children. There needs to be a serious examination of your conscience if that is your main purpose behind your justification of using NFP.
I’m not arguing that NFP isn’t legitimate. It most certainly is when used for the right reasons. But for the vast majority of Catholics today, it is being wildly misused and abused.”
