The Airfield Manager

Description
How do you go from Scotland and secretarial college to the outskirts of London, owning and managing an airfield......via a spot of car dealing?! Catherine's story shows that life can take some surprising turns, and that everything you do can be useful experience to bring to future jobs and roles. Gwen gets to hear the incredible history of women in the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) - a British civilian organisation set up at the start of the Second World War with headquarters at White Waltham Airfield in Berkshire, which Catherine now owns and manages. The airfield is home to West London Aero Club, three runways, aircraft hangers for privately owned aircrafts, a flying school, aircraft manufacturers, a model railway club, a pub, a party venue, and it is even sometimes transformed into a film set! We hope you enjoy this conversation between Gwen and her fascinating guest, Catherine. If you'd like to know more about White Waltham you can go to their website here. --- Through her Gwen Gets To Work podcast, Gwen gets finds out about what different adults do all day at work, and how they got there.
