“After 9 episodes I really really really want to like this new format and new co-host and I just don’t. Its turned me off from all of Matty’s other content. The “tap-ins” fall way short of the original vision of putting the audience in the third seat. The questions are random or unrelated to gaming. Format would be better to invite the audience to be a part of the major discussion topic for the week. Invite “tap-ins” to ask questions or comment on whatever the major topic of the week during that discussion. They would be better with more focus; being 3-5 minutes in length; and having more variety of people actually calling in. Right now they can drag 10-15 minutes; they favor repeat callers; and are completely painful to listen to.
Matty and Paul also show their youth with jokes and stories that demonstrate less life experience. Sometimes the jokes or stories feel like they devolve into immature high school banter rather than adults talking. Paul also brings a lower energy and is harder to understand due to his lower volume levels.
Thankfully mrmattyplays fans still have Defining Duke on Sacred Symbols. Despite my dislike of the show I hope it succeeds. Matty works harder than most content creators on this space and deserves nothing less. I just won’t be a listener to this podcast until it has some time to grow into what it could be.”
