HKHS is incredible
Since I began listening to Hazel & Katniss & Harry & Starr this year, I have been completely obsessed. Each episode contains an insightful and entertaining conversation about a ya book and its adaptation that always makes you think. They highlight the many tropes that are so often present in YA literature in a fun and interesting way, and are always open to input and feedback from listeners in their book club and mailbag episodes. Before each episode, they do territorial acknowledgments for where ever the property that they are looking into is made/set, and go on to discuss the issue of colonisation and racism in that text. Brenna and Joe are a delight to listen to and always make me feel better when I put them in my ears. If you are at all interested in YA books, movies or shows, then do not hesitate. Listen to Hazel & Katniss & Harry & Starr. You will not regret it.

I’m having a blast revisiting stories I devoured as a teen through Joe and Brenna’s lighthearted and fairly balanced critical lens. As long as you’re not too precious about your favorite stories being picked apart and criticized, and are willing to engage in the fun alongside occasional serious...Read full review »
