“Hi,
Just wanted to thank you for this podcast. I am a Midwife in the UK and have worked in many settings over the last 14 years. This podcast keeps me grounded and ensures I don’t lose sight of my philosophy of birth, keeping the women and their needs at the forefront of mind.
We had our first son at home and our second in the hospital due to raised BP and concerns about our sons growth. I was induced 1 week early. Both experiences were wonderful. However, I am aware this is probably because I was a midwife already. Midwives in the Uk are still very much respected and have a good amount of autonomy. I can’t imagine supporting a woman during labour, building that relationship, trust and rapport to then have an obstetrician take over when things are progressing beautifully.
I currently work in a Birth Centre alongside an obstetric unit. I love my job, it is a calling, a vocation and the privilege of supporting women and families during labour and birth is an honour.
Our obstetricians are very respectful of women, we have a great relationship and mutual respect for each other too. We practise our obstetric emergency training together and regularly attend the same study days. I am so grateful for this.
Thanks again and please keep informing the public with evidence based information as it is crucial for women to feel confident and better prepared to experience the birth they want.
Lindsay
