Description
Eduroam is a technology specification for higher education that provides secure user access to any participating network. Based on 802.1x and RADIUS, participating institutions can federate their RADIUS servers such that any Eduroam user can connect to an Eduroam hotspot on a network, whether at their home institution or an institution they are visiting, and get secure, authenticated Internet access. On today’s Heavy Wireless, Keith Parsons talks with guest is Mark Houtz about designing Eduroam for the future, including the 6Ghz band. Mark explains the challenges of filtering Internet access for K-12 students when they travel outside of their local high school and the technical requirements of Eduroam, specifically the use of WPA3 Enterprise on all frequencies when using the new 6 GHz band. Mark also shares his testing process for Eduroam’s compatibility with 6 GHz radios. Mark is a CWNE and and network engineer for Northeastern Utah Educational Services (NUES).
