In this episode, Bryan Alzate talks to Kory W about his journey through addiction and recovery. Kory grew up in Davie, Florida, the same town as Bryan, and came from a family with several siblings and parents who drank and partied. Kory's father was a role model for him, and he wanted to be just like him, drinking and smoking as he saw his father do. At the age of eight, Kory had his first beer, and by the time he was in ninth grade, he was already struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction. At a party that he and Bryan both attended, Kory got so drunk that he ended up naked in a bathtub with a group of drunk girls giving him a sponge bath. This embarrassing experience marked the beginning of his descent into addiction, and he soon found himself isolated from his friends and family. Despite being able to hold down a job and help his family financially, Kory couldn't stay sober, and he found himself in jail and in trouble with the law. At one point, he even overdosed and was technically dead in the back of a car. It wasn't until he found a sponsor and started doing the 12 steps that Kory was finally able to stay sober. Although it took more than a year and a half of trying and failing to get sober, Kory's commitment to the program and his love for it helped him achieve long-term sobriety. Today, he has more than six years of sobriety and a fulfilling life, working a great job, engaged to someone he loves, and able to help his family.
