Essential Respite
I am so thankful to Megan for naming these things and creating a room to safely coexist with the hardest parts of being a human. I found discovered the book first, about three years ago now, shortly after my mom was paralyzed in a car crash. I had no idea my pain should be called grief, and as someone secondarily affected by her condition, I did NOT feel entitled to grieve. But then, just like that, three and a half years after her accident, she died from those injuries. The pain is consuming and crushing all at once, but I feel (if only marginally) more equipped to cope with grief from death because I’ve already been honest with myself about my grief from the previous losses. Especially lost opportunity. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
