“Whatifalthist is one of my favourite YouTube channels. Rudyard is an impressive individual. He has assimilated vast amounts of historical knowledge and managed to draw out some insightful patterns.
This podcast is pretty much the same deal, except organised chronologically rather than thematically. So a welcome and complementary perspective. I suspect most listeners will be generally familiar with most periods. I found he added more detail to the familiar but also introduced me to some less familiar periods. But the real value is in teasing out the ‘why’s and ‘so what’s.
The host is mainly letting Rudyard be Rudyard, which is fine. But it’s not clearly an improvement over a simple monologue. Would inviting a guest historian provide an interesting dialogue or detract from the exposition?”

“Tried to listen to this after hearing about it on Econ 102 and wow, it’s bad. Couldn’t get through an episode before the ahistorical ramblings made me shut it off.
Very clear Rudyard hasn’t actually studied history, good thing I only wasted 20 minutes on this.”
