Too snarky
I was excited about the idea of a woman hosting an art history podcast. While I appreciate that she pointed out how women in the 19th century did not have access to art education, it seemed off topic. The discussion was about how the Impressionists were kept out of the Salon. The Impressionists in discussion were all male. This story is about the triumph of the iconoclastic Impressionists as they struggled against the traditions of the Salon. Women were at a disadvantage on either side. Overall, Klaire’s modern liberal buzzwords are trite and excessively forceful. This brings up two important points. If you’re looking at history through the narrow lens of modern progressive sentiments, then you will fail to understand it. I am looking for a professor of art history who understands it and can explain it; both the positive and negative aspects. Second, if you detest history because it doesn’t conform to your self-righteous rules of right and wrong, then maybe it’s best to stick with your social media where the same unintelligent opinions keep going around.

Wonderful stuff. It’d be a little easier on the ears if she’d reign in the adolescent mockery, though…

Klaire takes you through a whirlwind of the history of art in a fun, subversive way. This is not a worship-fest of Great Art, rather it helps you understand and challenge fussy ideas about What Art Is and Does. Highly recommended!!
