A great listen, helpful in filling in a major gap in my 20th century and war knowledge.

I have been bingeing this podcast for the last few months and have really come to appreciate the depth of Livesay’s research, and his straightforward presentation. He provides a lot of detail without being overwhelming, and I have a much better understanding of this pivotal period of history than...Read full review »

I love this podcast and listen to it on my bus back from school and in class when I can. I’m a huge ww1 nerd and greatly enjoyed this podcast keep the good work up

Unbound ambition. Delivering each and every episode. Learnt a lot, especially about local national specifics leading up to the conflict. Thank you.

There are some very annoying people on my bus and it is really helpful for ignoring them. Thank you!

Binged history of the 2nd world war until I caught up, and now binging history of the Great War. Awesome story telling and detail. We need more historical podcasts like this!

Just like a true historian, the author has chosen to take the view that history is written by the victor, which must be wrong. Effectively 200 episodes on how great the Germans are, I hope kids are not being shown this, as he proudly states, as we do not need more ignorant people on this...Read full review »

I love listening to this podcast while at work. Wish I would hear about tanks, but I’m in the early episodes so I’m sure they’ll come up.

Thanks for making this podcast. Well researched and delivered.

I got to episode 22 before the bias perspective has annoyed me enough to write this review. In this episode the author speaks of the callous German actions of using gas and chemical warfare. He speaks of how they actually gassed themselves, which he then goes against by complimenting the generals...Read full review »

The author hides his German accent well. One must be extremely wary of the heavy Bias this has been created with. The only solace I can find with a podcast which speaks of German brilliance, bravery, cunning and intelligence is the prior knowledge of who actually won this war. I have been pushed...Read full review »

The quantity and depth of the episodes is very impressive, especialy for a one-man passion project. The production quality isn’t the highest, but that really doesn’t matter if you’re here for the history. If you’re interested in World War I, even if you have some basic background knowledge, you...Read full review »

I’ve loved listening to this podcast, principally because you get to see the podcast grow over time. His abilities are honed over time and you can see the quality of the podcast as a whole increase. Good voice, great research, and good clear writing make this the best WW1 podcast in my opinion.

Excellent telling of the history though there is some slight bias towards a pro isolationist view in regards to the US in the war.

Loving the story telling so far, i thought i might get burned out with so many episodes but not so! Looking foreword to listening to every one. I giggled a bit at a few pronunciations early on but things have improved a lot and i can tell how much effort goes into each episode. Earned all 5 stars.

When a historian openly flaunts their political views it makes it difficult to trust their take on history as being accurate. There are better ww1 podcasts from objective historians.

I really think the presenter has done a wonderful job of researching this podcast. Also the idea of having the shows mirror events of a 100 years previously gives a great chronological context to the event. Found this podcast after being half way through his Second World War podcast and the original is just as good as the sequel. Presented in a interesting way with stats to keep it grounded but not boring with details. Splendidly done.

As a historian I swim in the almost endless and evergreen study of men’s effort to kill, wound, and destroy other men. Stories of war require a deft touch to not become simple voyeurism.
