Listen now
Description
Our guest on this episode is someone who has worked through the minor league hockey chain to a prominent position with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League. In his current position as the Director of Salary Cap Management and Assistant to the President of Hockey Operations for the Edmonton Oilers, Bill Scott handles everything from player contracts to affiliations. In this conversation, we discuss Scott’s climb up the minor league hockey ladder, what keeps him challenged, what a good development affiliation looks like and so much more. The interview covers multiple topics, including: * How the Edmonton Oilers have been affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic * Oilers as a hub city for the "return to play" * How the Oilers will approach the starts in the AHL and ECHL * From Michigan State to running the Hockey Operations departments in the ECHL & AHL * Going from the AHL front office to Oklahoma City * Working with Craig MacTavish, Peter Chiarelli, and Ken Holland and how they've made him a better executive * What a "typical" day is like * What do the Oilers look for in a solid player development partner? * Why there is a lack of long-term affiliation deals at the AA-level? * Decision process for determining the number of players at the start of the season, and who moves up in-season? * How can Edmonton/Bakersfield/Wichita work together to develop players while putting a winning product on the ice in each market? Our thanks to Edmonton Oilers PR representative, Andre Brin, for his help in setting up the interview.
