This podcast is an extension of Sean’s other platforms where he works hard to posit the church as being persecuted. This “persecution” that he describes is predominantly a childish reaction to our larger community calling out the ways the conservative evangelical church is baked into legislation or leaders that actively harm their communities and/or impose theocratic laws on a secular nation. For example, acknowledging the systemic inequities exist is seen as an affront to the church, instead of an opportunity to stand up for people who are hurt by a system that still doesn’t treat people equally. He’ll delete comments of people respectfully disagreeing, but when his followers spew actual hate speech, not do a thing. I hope he invites someone outside his echo chamber onto the pod. But don’t know who would be willing considering that his followers are legitimately dangerous and have made threats to those with dissenting opinions. And yes, I listened to the whole thing.
