This is a hard saying… who can accept it?
Fr. Scerby is a true man and a true spiritual leader in the Church who cares about the hearts and eternal life of everyone he meets. He will always speak the truth to you, even if it means you won’t like him anymore—because he’s *not* going to stand by and watch us all drink poison and pretend that it’s a life-saving elixir. I have never met a priest who is so close to the heart of those who many (including myself) have written off as “the enemy” of Catholicism and wider Christianity. Particularly those who struggle with the mortal sin of same-sex attraction. When he speaks, the weight of the truth reaches out and rips off your mask and exposes the truth of yourself and the world around you in a way that is hard to explain. He can look at you and you know that you matter, and that you can rely on him to be a rock. That’s true masculinity. That’s true love. He won’t settle for the insidious apathy of tolerance and acceptance—only true love and true relationship is enough for him, because he knows that what awaits us at the end is more beautiful and worthy of our striving than the pleasures of this age. When you listen to this podcast, expect that you will not be babied or gently rocked to sleep. Expect that the lights *will* suddenly be turned on, your cuddly warm blanket snatched away, and your pacifier nowhere to be found. But do not be afraid. In place of this childishness you leave behind, you with be clothed with the armor of God and given the strength to face difficult things. Indeed, we have to face hard sayings because we need to become strong. So dare to face yourself. Dare to face the world and see our culture for what it has become. Dare to face God and allow him to reach into your heart and truly be with Him. Dare to look Jesus in the face as he bleeds and dies for you. Dare to love one another as Jesus has loved us… Dare to die, and you might just live.

More reviews of Holiness for the Working Day
Spiritual and practical. Psychological properly integrated into the Catholic understanding of the human person. Insightful. At times deeply profound. Most importantly, real. Should be called Keepin’ It Real Holiness
