“The hosts are thorough which is great. As a purist for years, I loathed the show since season 3 when the show’s story grossly deviated from ASOIF. So, when I realized D&D would finish GRRM’s story with S8, I quickly binged all seasons in anticipation for the end. This podcast has been awesome for that! I will say I thought it was interesting one of the hosts, Kristin, praise the dismal “Long Night” but totally bash “The Bells”. Also, she insisted Jaime had an alternative reason for going back to Cercei other than...going back to Cercei. It seems she does not understand the characters, or really analyze the blatant hints sprinkled throughout the show that pointed to: Daenary’s conquering Westeros through fire and blood.
It seems this is indeed the ending that GRRM divulged to the producers earlier on. It alludes to the corrupting nature of power, of what happens when one individual has the capability to exert that power. I do agree that D&D rushed the ending of the series; they should have had another season but what occurred in “The Bells” was alluded to. I think the host, Kristin, like many fans, are upset to see their favorite character fall to the fallacy of power. However, Game of Thrones has never been about giving the Disney-esque ending for ones favorite characters. It’s realism, it’s dynastic struggles, it’s allusions to our own history. You don’t have to be “mad” to burn a city. Xerxes laid waste to the acropolis, and Alexander the Great wasted Persepolis. They were not considered mad—simply, conquering monarchs. The all powerful do as they please, and so did Daeny.”
