#16 – For the Love of Hockey (and Hustling!) with Mike Commito, PhD
Listen now
Description
Mike Commito, PhD, is an author and hockey historian. His work has been featured in Vice, Sportsnet, and beyond. Mike has a new book out called Hockey 365: Daily Stories from the Ice. Mike is also a former colleague of mine. When I was working on my M.A. in Globalization Studies at McMaster University (Canada), Mike was completing his PhD in History. We haven’t communicated since, so it was great to catch up. More than that, I wanted to know more about Mike’s recent publishing success, his work ethic, how he manages to achieve work-life-balance as a new father, how he capitalizes on professional opportunities, and more. The NHL season just started, and so what better time to geek out about one of my favourite sports? And as you know, I don’t really care what someone is passionate about–as long as they are passionate about something. Mike is nothing if not passionate about his work, and I found the conversation inspiring. It made me think about how I can be more of a “hustler” in my own professional life. As a lifelong hockey fan (and Canadian), this one was a lot of fun for me. Hockey fan or not, I think you’ll enjoy the conversation as well.
