Discovered by filmmaker and activist Derek Jarman in the 80s, Swinton went on to star in Sally Potter's Orlando before breaking America with her lead role in The Deep End. She appeared in both mainstream and indie fare like Vanilla Sky, Constantine and The Chronicles of Narnia before winning a Best Supporting Actor Oscar and BAFTA for her role in Michael Clayton.
