“Basic message: don’t do anything that will make Russians experience the consequences of their (in)action/s. Make it as easy as possible for people to live outside of Russia in comfortable western democracies. Give support for these exiles to talk in their eco chambers. If all of these things got us to 2022, it’s really hard to imagine why doing more of this would somehow lead to change inside Russia. Maybe the fate of that country will change only when a critical mass of people inside of Russia find it necessary to behave differently. We in the west don’t need to butter them up, convince them that we/they are wonderful, and spend a bunch of resources on things to make them feel loved and wanted by the west.”
