What is the goal? (Season1)
I went into this podcast thinking it was a mystery, but it’s clear from the beginning it is not. Then it becomes clear it is a critique of law enforcement. By episode 6, there is a strong critique of sex offender registries that is shallow and one-sided. This episode was truly troubling and challenging to listen to - especially the way we were expected to sympathize with convicted offenders without consideration of their victims. But what continues to bother me is this: what IS the reporter’s goal? I’m all for pushing institutions to be better, and while the reporter is clearly exposing shortcomings of law enforcement, in my opinion she is doing so without communicating a clear outcome she is hoping for. It feels like she is critiquing anything she can get a hold of in these sensational cases simply for the sake of critiquing it. Could be a great podcast if it had a more clear goal.

More reviews of In The Dark
Wow, showcasing a 27 year old unsolved case and wham!!! They find the remains? Either totally ironic, or a REAL preview of this podcast. Time will tell.

But, so hard to listen to without getting just furious about the ineptitude of the police and FBI in this sad story. Great podcast!
